Inside Collaboration focuses on key
trends and events that impact the e-collaboration and knowledge
management (KM) marketplaces. The figure below illustrates
CS's functional taxonomy for the e-collaboration marketplace
from a functional perspective. We believe there are eight
discrete yet interrelated software and service groups that
comprise this evolving market space. From the user's perspective,
these markets may be placed on a spectrum between synchronous
and asynchronous functionality; and on the other axis, we
look at what size groups typically use each function or technology.
|
Figure 1
While technology plays a critical role
in terms of how organizations collaborate today, technology is,
in general, an enabler of the interpersonal interactions that comprise
collaboration. Economics, corporate culture (behavior), and internal
politics (leadership) also significantly impact the efficacy of
such implementations. Most news events in the e-collaboration and
KM spaces focus on products and services rather than the more complex
human issues associated with these tools. We will, however, try
to cover at least one of these people-oriented challenges in each
issue of Inside Collaboration through an editorial by one
of our analysts or an invited article from an industry expert. The
news and analysis that follows has been alphabetically grouped according
to the taxonomy shown above. CS has produced reports on several
of the topics identified here, and has recently released the following
reports:
